When families grow and people begin to need more space moving to a larger house may not be the answer if there is potential for using other pace within their home.
Garages are often seen as essential for houses as most of us have a car or cars, but in reality, many people just use their garage as a repository for junk and things they can’t quite decide what to do with. More and more people are looking at their garage as a resource for more space. It is often possible to have a small garden hut to store those garden items that are currently kept, in the garage, so the space, in reality could be used for something else.
Garages that are already attached to the house through internal doors are ideal for conversion. Maximising use of this valuable additional space means that careful thought is needed, because the needs of different rooms will require different changes and services adding or changing.
For example, if it is needed as a bathroom or utility room, or an extension to the kitchen it will need certain services. If as a practice music room it will require soundproofing. If a study is needed as well as an additional bedroom, perhaps the conversion can accommodated both uses.
Many people are now converting their detached garage into a home office if they ruin their business from home – ideal if they need a separation of work and relaxation, and more practical from claiming against business expenses.
